We moved back to the Madison area about a year ago and being from CO, a large complaint we have is that “good!” Mexican food is hard to come by in WI. We can now scratch this complaint off of our lists after trying Taqueria Guadalajara in Madison, WI.
Many of our close friends pushed us to try this restaurant and we are so glad that we listened to them. Situated on South Park Street in Madison, Taqueria Guadalajara is a small building that you might just miss if you blink. However the delicious smells as you approach will draw you in as well as the beautiful paintings throughout the restaurant. The main dining area is situated in the back of the restaurant and is simple, clean and comfortable. Our family enjoys finding small quaint restaurants that we can hunker down in, feel comfortable and hear each other talk. We also like restaurants with an authentic feel. This one fit the bill.
Another family criteria is that the menu has to be full of healthy options. I ordered the Huarache Vegetariano (without cheese or sour cream – which I’m sure would have been delicious) and was in love with the simple grilled veggies topping an oblong masa base (pictured below). I’ve found myself dreaming of this dish ever since our last visit. My husband ordered his go-to Burrito and was equally impressed. What’s more amazing is that our kids found dishes they loved… which rarely happens.
It’s official. We’ll now be regulars at Taqueria Guadalajara and we’re hoping you’ll give them a try too. And when you do, tell them Spicy Gal sent you.
