Campfire Roasted Rolls

Start up your camp fire and make sure it's nice and hot.

Find large sticks with approximately 1-2 inch diameters.

Wrap a chunk of bread dough around the stick.

Hold the stick over the ashes (NOT directly in the fire). Turn the stick periodically so that you get even browning.

This will take approximately 5 minutes per side.

Watch the delight on the faces around you and Enjoy!

Note: The preparation time does not include making your home-made bread dough at home... or going to the store to purchase it. (wink)


I can’t tell you how many times I have tried to come up with other camping food options rather than the standard hot dogs and smores (not that I don’t love those as well). This summer I looked far and wide to make our final camping trip of the year one to remember. I came across this trick and it worked perfectly!

The best part is you can do this with any bread item (including cinnamon rolls!). Make your own bread dough or purchase bread dough in the store.

TIP: If you purchase pre-made bread dough, make sure it is the kind that rolls out like a long snake. This will allow you to easily wrap it around the stick and eliminate time wasted trying to get the correct shape while juggling all the chores you typically do at home only this time in dirt, grass, and with a campfire.
When making it yourself, do the prep work at home before leaving for your camping trip. Prepare your bread dough and then roll it out into long snakes. Spray with non-stick cooking spray and roll the dough back into the shape of a cinnamon roll. Freeze on a waxed paper lined baking sheet. Once frozen (about 30 minutes) place into a large ziplock bag that can be easily stored in your cooler. Viola!
