I often meet friends at various coffee shops around Madison, WI and the surrounding suburbs. It’s a great chance for me to get away from my writing for a while. I stumbled upon What’s Brew’n when a friend invited me to this quaint coffee shop near her home. Sun Prairie is located just northeast of Madison and is convenient as it’s right off the highway. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, Hwy 19 runs through Sun Prairie and What’s Brew’n is located directly off of 19. Folks, they even have a drive through if you find yourself zipping down Hwy 19 and need a caffeine pick-me-up or a scoop of ice cream!
I found the interior to be beautifully decorated. There are sitting areas for any preference. The interiour boasts tall bar height tables, larger round tables to fit a group of 8-10, couches, comfy chairs, smaller fit-for-two tables and a play area for children tucked off to the side. During warmer months grab a table out front near beautifully potted plants and flowers.
I’ve found through my visits at various coffee shops that many are lacking in menu options. What’s Brew’n has a large menu that can be found on their website: www.whatisbrewing.com They have options from salads to wraps, pizza, and breakfast dishes. There’s even a menu for the kiddos. My favorite so far is the baked oatmeal. Delicious!
Let me just take a minute to tell you about this oatmeal. It really is that good! You’ll get a large serving of warm out of the oven oatmeal with chopped walnuts and berries. It also comes with carmel syrup, um…yes, please! The oatmeal consistency is moist and crumbly. You won’t find that dry taste that leaves your mouth chalky or that too sticky consistency that oatmeal can have. The taste is sweet and the nuts and berries are a perfect blend to add just the right flavor to the dish. You don’t really need the caramel sauce, as the dish is already sweet enough however, it does make the meal a bit more fun. I enjoy dipping the apples that accompany the meal into the caramel sauce. If you’re looking for a real treat ask for a scoop of ice cream on top. Mmmmm!
Can you tell I’m more about food than coffee/tea? Although, I do love a good cup of coffee or a strong cup of tea. What’s Brew’n has many different drink options. I’m a fan of their cappuccino, vanilla late or coffee of the day (I haven’t tried a blend I haven’t liked yet).
They boast many blends of coffee and organic teas. And if you’ve had your fix of caffeine or meals for the day and you are looking for a snack, they have ICE CREAM! And a drive-through window! (wink)
I hope you’ll give this coffee shop a try. It’s well worth it. And when you do please tell them that Spicy Gal sent you. Enjoy!
